2005 Family Linsmayer bought the house & restaurant and 2006 rebuilt it totaly - everything new:
St. Wolfgang is named after his founder – Saint Wolfgang. 976 Wolfgang was bishop of Regensburg, but because of a difficult time he went to an isolated monastery at Mondsee as well as to the barely accessible Abersee. He lived many years in the vicinity of Falkenstein.
In the last hundreds of years Saint Wolfgang got admired a lot and there are many legends about him. His piety and his fantastic acts were decisive for the increase of pilgrims (20 000 to 70 000 pilgrims every year) and consequently the town got rich and could build a romantic church. But 1429 a big fire destroyed the whole town.
A new boom emerged when 1430 St. Wolfgang got its market rights from Kaiser Sigismund. In this time the gothic church got erected and the Pacher Altar was put up. But the reformation put an end to wealth. Good and bad times were alternating. The economy in St. Wolfgang boomed again when in the middle of the last century Kaiser Franz Josef chose Bad Ischl for his summer residence.
